Author and illustrator Sally Kindberg carried out a number of workshops on creative mapping, cartooning and storytelling. Sally worked with young people form eight different schools. In Bernera she encouraged children to draw the route between home and school with obstacles and challenges on the way. This allowed the children to begin creating story maps.

TESSELLATED MAP WORKSHOP
Leading on from Sally Kindberg's creative mapping workshops this session worked with children to create their own tessellated maps. The routes through the maps were roads, caves, tunnels and even blood vessels. Each map although unique could fit together with other children's maps to make a larger network. The children then placed challenges and solutions within the map and created their own board games.

MAPPING YOUR WORLD
Children on the School Run project all have a 2m by 80cm map of their local area. They are transforming it into a 3D using the contour lines as a guide to build up height. They then decoupage over the hills with matching areas of the map. Sound bites, poems, and images will be under flaps and provide an interactive experience.

ICONS FOR THE MAP
The primary school of Bernera made icons for themselves to put on the 3 dimensional topographical map of Bernera. They made icons to represent themselves, be it their dog or their car, or themselves. They placed it where they live. They also made icons for areas that were important to them.
